What is anodised aluminium?
Aluminium is an amazing material. How can the same thing build the Empire State Building and also be a beautiful wearable piece of art?
Right, here goes the science bit - anodising is an electrochemical process by which you can add permanent durable pattern and colour to aluminium. I first print a pattern on to a sheet of unsealed aluminium using a variety of coloured inks.
Next, I add anodising dyes to create a background colour to the pattern. Once the dyes are applied, the aluminium is then sealed by steam which creates the permanent pattern and vibrant colour.
Where does the sea glass come from?
It would be hard to overstate how much I love sea glass! The colours, the pitted irregular surface and shapes - all signs of the mysterious life it lived before.
I source my sea glass from all over the place - some pieces collected from the shores around the UK, others already tumbled to give a smoother flatter surface.
But wherever they come from, the essential element is the beautiful luminous colour.
Will my jewellery be hallmarked?
Any piece of silver jewellery for sale weighing over (a strangely specific) 7.78 grams has to, by English law, be hallmarked.
Most of my designs are under that weight and therefore in order to keep the price down, I do not get them hallmarked. Anything over that weight obviously will be hallmarked. If a piece of jewellery has been hallmarked, I will always say so in the product description.
My jewellery is hallmarked at The Goldsmiths Hallmarking and Assay Office in London.
How do I care for my jewellery?
Your jewellery is very easy to care for. Just follow these simple steps to keep it looking in tip top condition.
-
Remove jewellery before washing.
-
Avoid contact with water, spray, perfume and chemicals.
-
Ideally store your jewellery in acid free tissue paper to help prevent tarnishing.
-
Use a soft silver polishing cloth when needed unless the silver is oxidised.
But don't worry you don't have to remember all that as every piece of jewellery comes with Caring for your Jewellery card.
